During the war of independence, or the Revolutionary War, the Americans faced cold weather, lack of proper food, and a lack of organization within the army itself. The American army was nearly all volunteers who came to fight with nothing but a rifle and the clothes on their backs.
Solders huddled together to keep warm and had little food, also Washington reported 1 third of solders were unfit for war because they lacked clothes and shoes. Also civilians suffered to because of the British navy blockade to isolate Americans from outside contact; this disrupted trade and people were profiteering .
When the Americans declared their independence from Britain, they were faced with the question of what type of government to have. They had to decide on having monarchy, democracy, or republic.
