Jesse Jackson was for a time a force for minority representation. His organization based in Chicago was called the Rainbow Coalition. Thus the symbol of a rainbow represented his organization. The rainbow, a spectrum of colors was chosen as its symbol as it served all groups in the spectrum of minority and yes even non minority representative government.
