Louis IV, also called Louis dâ??Outremer, was born in the year 921 and died September 10, 954, in Reims, France. He ruled as the King of France from 936 to 954. He spent much of this reign struggling against his powerful vassal, Hugh the Great, for control of Laon.
Louisiana was named after Louis XVI, King of France from 1643-1715. When Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle claimed the territory drained by the Mississippi Rivive for France, he named it La Louisiane, meaning "Land of Louis".
