There is no succession to the office of Vice President. If the position becomes vacant, as by succession of the VP to the Presidency, or his death or resignation, the 25th Amendment provides that a new Vice President will be nominated by the current President, and confirmed by both houses of Congress.
Two Vice Presidents have been chosen under the amendment: Gerald Ford in 1973 and Nelson Rockefeller in 1974.
(If some tragic event would kill both the President and Vice President, then the Speaker of the House would become president.)
The US president remains president, but would have to nominate a new vice president.
speaker of the house
The Vice President of America.
Yes! The Vice President, the the Speaker of the House. This is the current line of succession: http://www.patriotstoolbox.org/america/presidentiallineofsuccession.htm
The vice president is promptly sworn in as President if the President dies or resigns. This unfortunate event has already happened nine times in US history.
The vice president takes office if the president dies.
If both of them die, the speaker of the house becomes the president.
The Vice President automatically becomes the president. There is a process, in one of the recent amendments to the Constitution, for the appointment of a new Vice President. They serve the remainder of the original president's term. The Constitution was thus amended after the death of Kennedy (1963) and before the resignation of Nixon (1972).
PresidentIf both the president and vice-president are unable to complete the term, the Speaker of the House of Representatives becomes president. If the Speaker of the House cannot complete the term, the President pre tempore of the Senate becomes president, and the list of successors then goes to the Secretary of State and Cabinet members. speaker of house Nancy pelosi
If the US president dies, the vice-president becomes president and a new vice-president is appointed. If the 'new' president dies, the 'new' vice-president becomes president. This process is dealt with under the 25th Amendment to the US constitution which starts off....Section 1. In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President. Section 2. Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
If any US President were to die during their term of office, then the US Vice President would be sworn in as President.
Amendment 25 gives a process for filling a vacancy in the office of vice president. What happens is that the new President names someone to fill the position and if both houses of Congress approve, he becomes vice president.

Vice- President is the first in the line of succession for the presidency. Indeed such is the primary purpose for the office of vice-president.
