The American Colonists were fighting a revolution against the British. They fought the Battle of Trenton, NJ on Christmas Day, because General George Washington needed to win a big battle, he had been beaten quite a few times by the British recently, he needed to get soldiers whose enlistments were about to expire to reenlist, he needed to prove to the Colonial government in Philadelphia he could win a revolution. The British did not expect a battle on Christmas Day, or in the middle of winter. They thought they had all but beaten George Washington and the Colonial Army. Gen. Washington crossed the icy Delaware river from Pennsylvania to New Jersey and caught the British off guard at Trenton. The victory had the consequences General/President George Washington wanted. It was one the major turning points of the Revolution, along with the Battle of Saratoga and Battle of Yorktown.
The outcome of the Battle of Germantown, PA was a British victory. The troops of George Washington were proven to be ill-equipped to fight the well-trained British and Hessian soldiers.

The Battle of Breeds Hill was an important battle during the American Revolution because it was one of the first major battles. Due to limited amounts of rebel gun powder, troops were told to not shoot until they could see the whites of the enemys' eyes. They were also told to aim for commanding officers in the British army to help demoralize the enemy. Even though the British won the Battle of Breeds Hill, about 1 in 6 of their officers were killed. American troops were forced to retreat because the supply of gunpowder was used up. Even though the Americans lost this battle, it showed to the British and the rest of the world that Americans were willing to risk their lives to fight for their freedom.
the Americans were pleading the french and spanish to help in the war, but when the Americans won a major victory at the battle of saratoga, the french saw that the colonies had a chance to win the war. With the french navy to support Americans, Britain had to fight a battle on two fronts and this quickly bankrupted the nation.
The Battle of Harlem Heights occurred during the American Revolutionary War on September 16, 1776. American colonial troops, under the command of George Washington, were withdrawing from New York in advance of superior numbers of British troops. The Americans occupied the high ground of what is now 125th Street to 161st Street in Manhattan. British troops marched on the retreating Americans from near what is now Central Park, and apparently precipitated the battle by beginning to sing during their advance and sounding bugles to make it appear as though it were a fox-hunt. This action enraged the Americans, who dug in and turned to fight the British. Washington designed a trap for the British, and chased them from the field. This battle was significant for the American forces early in the Revolutionary War, coming directly after a loss at the Battle of Long Island in which the British had captured New York City. Although the eventual outcome of the battle was a standoff and the eventual withdrawl of the American forces, the Battle of Harlem Heights demonstrated to the Continental Army that they could stand up to the British forces, and restored their morale for future engagements.
