Some delegates thought that the citizens should choose the president but others thought that the national government should. They compromised and made the Electoral College and they now decide who the president will be.
Not sure what you want to know. Soon after the Constitution was ratified, the people unanimously chose George Washington to be President. Not only that, but he was unanimously re-elected for 4 more years, and after that most people wanted him to run again, but he refused.
