Salamanders live any place that is not too dry and not too cold. That includes most of North America south of the Arctic Circle, Central America, tropical South America, most of Europe, and much of Asia. They are oddly absent from most of Africa, from the Indian subcontinent, and from Australia. They rarely live on islands in the ocean.
