Why wont a salamander eat?

Very sensitive to human contact. Can't just pick it up, take it home and expect it to live. Also secretes a toxic enzyme from it's tail that can make you sick. If you find one chances are it will starve to death if you capture it. Very difficult to mimic their environment.
