It is believed that Ramses II did have a pet lion, although this has not been confirmed. One of the reliefs inside the Abu Simbel temple, showing Ramses on his chariot during the Battle of Kadesh, shows a lion running alongside the chariot, which is the main source of proof that Ramses had a lion

Also, it was common for Pharaoh's to mummify their pets, ranging from cats and dogs to monkeys. Mummified Lions have been found in Egyptian tombs, so Lions as pets were possible.

Whether or not Ramses actually had one, or whether its just a form of Ancient Egyptian Propaganda is unknown.
