The myths are a collection of stories about the Gods and their interactions with the world, that were passed on orally at first and only later written down (from the 8th century BCE onwards). They developed over time and had many variants in different areas, or even even different villages close to each other, and because of this heterogeneity they often contradicted eachother, which was however not a problem at all for the ancient Hellenes.
