They had to use water from the Nile and they they would either just bathe in the nile or they might've had a cleansing room that they filled with water from the Nile. They thought the water from the Nile was spiritually blessed, so they thought there was no reason to clean or purify the water. They used special herbal soap.

Ancient Egyptian society was split into the aristocracy and priests on the one hand and the poor masses on the other.

For most people, living conditions were very crowded, basic and unhygienic. People were prone to allow household waste to accumulate (there was no refuse collection service); food waste constituted a serious health hazard even if it was swept out to the roadside and not left in the house. Houses would be full of flies, mosquitoes, fleas, mice and rats, which added to the unhealthy environment.

Human and animal excrement would be carefully collected by children, mixed with straw and dried in the sun on the flat roof of the house as a winter fuel for burning. Hopefully the children washed themselves carefully afterwards . . .

Only the wealthy had lavatories in their homes and bathrooms, but even here there was no piped water - it had to be brought by women in pots from a nearby pond or canal.

Hair was washed, but perhaps not very often. The wealthy could afford oils or perfume to dress their hair, but poor people are generally depicted in paintings with hair like a rat's nest.

Ordinary people never saw a bathroom in their lives; they poured water over their hands from a jug and caught it in a bowl to use again.
