Constantine I the Great was born at 272 AD/ CE Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus son of Constantius Chloros and Helen [Saint Helen]. He died at 337 AD/ CE. In his 31 years of ruling managed to maintain the full size of the Roman Empire and defeated successfuly his enemies and his competitors for the throne of the Empire.
He was the first Roman Emperor who issued a decree about the religious tolerence for the new religion of Christ [313 AD/ CE the Milan decree].
He was also the first to use as emblem/ symbol in his armed forces a flag with a cross. He selected a new capital [New Rome] in the east of his Emprire based in the port city of Byzantium a Greek colony of the city of Megara which was first settled at 700 BCE.
After his death his name was given to the city and was called Constantinople capital city of the Byzantine Empire.
For his contributions to Christianity the Roman Catholics honoured him the title "The Great" and the Eastern Orthodox proclaimed him and his mother Saints of the Church
