The Greek word dike is usually translated as justice. This is not correct - it meant settlement. They believed that the stability of their society depended on problems being settled to mutual satisfaction to avoid on-going strife and vendettas.
So what they wanted was dike and the three inter-connected tragedies which made up each daily programme headed towards and ended up with a resolution of traumatic events which would give a stable solution.
