The name Hazara refers to the ethnic group in the Middle East. It is derived from the Persian language word Hazar meaning one-thousand, It is said that the ethnic group are called Hazaras because Genghis Khan left behind one-thousand Mongol soldiers to guard the area they were stationed at so they did and after a while they adopted the local language and religion but still keeping parts of their Mongolian heritage alive thus it is believed today's Hazara are descended from the very one-thousand soldiers of Genghis Khan.
