There are two possible origins and meanings of this female name, Annica. The name is most often used by the Swedish and is derived from the Hebrew name Channah the mother of the prophet, Samuel. She was said to have been barren and asked God to grace her with the gift of a son. Literally, the name means " The Lord has honoured me with a son".

In Latin America, the name is also used for females and is thought to mean "transitory" or "impermanent".

Footnote: I think I'd rather go with the Hebrew definition. ( I realize this footnote will be deleted and that's ok because I've had my fun writing it.)
