There are many differences and similarities between these two institutions. Firstly people living in both Republics had quite a strong patriotism for democracy and freedom. They believed in freedom of speech and rights of the plebs well that is what the aristocracy was suposed to believe. However there are some differences. for one the Romans had two consuls sort of like two prime ministers but with executive authority the idea being that one could restrain the other to prevent Dictatorship. The Roman republic had these people caled "Tribunes" whose job it was to defend the rights and interests of the Plebs, they could veto any Senatorial decision. In times of strife and emergency the Romans could elect a "dictator" for 6 months. None of the above list you would find in the Greek system.
Bothe Rome and the independent Greek city-states had assemblies of the citizens, which mad decisions which were carried out by their councils.
I've recently done a project on Ancient Greece and I've learn that there are more similarities and differences there than Ancient Greece being BC and Australia being AD. Even this is not exactly true because the legacies of Ancient Greece live on todayHere are some similarities:Both participate/d in the OlympicsBoth are have citizensHere are some differences:Every Aussie is a citizenIn Ancient Greece, only upper class men could be citizens
Ancient Greek money was all coinage and probably all gold. Modern money is now alloy or paper.
City sates
classic monarchy, such as kings, vassals, so forth and so on, wasn't invented or even implemented in ancient greece. greece was a republic, similar to how the US of A is today. they had a group that would make decisions, a republic, and this republic would rule over the land. it worked out quite well, until i believe the Romans took over. typing republic into google would give much better info on the republics than i could.
Ancient Greece were the first country to create the republic.

Many people consider the ancient city State of Athens to have had the oldest republic as a form of government. The Roman Empire was until Augustus became Emperor also a republic. The oldest republics can therefor be said to originate in Italy and Greece. The oldest 'modern' republics (that moreover still exist as such) are Iceland and San Marino.
The ancient Roman republic had two branches-- the Senate and the Roman people. The magistrates and officials (consuls, praetors, tribune, etc.) were incorporated into the senate, while the votes of the people elected them to their various offices. The ancient Roman republic was not the same as our present day republics even through they are named the same.
