Hadrian's Wall was a stone and turf wall built by the Roman Empire right across the width of Great Britain to a: prevent military raids by the Scots who lived to the north, b: improve economic conditions in England and to provide peaceful conditions in the rest of England which lay to the south (excluding Wales), c: Mark where the Roman Empire in England ended d: separate the Selgovae tribe in the north from the Brigantes in the south and to discourage them from uniting. It is in the north of England and extends from Wallsend - Tyne and Wear (Segedunum Fort) in the East to the Solway Firth in the West. It is around 74 miles or 117km long.
