I assume you mean the main villain Grigori Rasputin. In the animated movie, he was a mystic and a priest who sold his soul to destroy the Romanovs, based on a real person. However the real Rasputin was not that evil. He did however have a dark side. Many people of Russia did not trust Rasputin, but for the devout mother, Alexandra, he was a beacon of hope. Her son, Alexei, had a disease where his blood could not clot, so even tiny cuts could cause him to bleed to death. Rasputin had a way of hypnotizing the boy and causing his heart rate to slow, and for the blood to not spill out as quickly. The Empress quickly began to depend on him, and always sought his council. The children were taught to trust Rasputin, but the people of Russia despised him, and many political Cartoons depicted him violating the Empress and the four daughters. However, Anastasia did not hate Rasputin, and he did not hate her. After he died in 1916 (a year before the movie took place) she showed great sadness, and had a picture of him in a locket. He was believed to be divine by many people, especially concerning his death. He was poisoned, shot, and even fell into a river, but it was ultimately the cold that killed him. Due to seeming to difficult to kill, the assassins believed he had been protected by God or that he had mystical powers.
