Alcmene was the daughter of Electryon, king of Mycenae. She married Amphitryon, son of Alcaeus, king of Tiryns. Her husband accidentally killed her father. Then her uncle, Sthenelus, exiled Alcmene and her husband. They fled to Thebes. Alcmene asked her husband to avenge her brothers. While he was away, Zeus came to her in her husband's form. She became pregnant with Hercules. She later had two more sons with her husband.
