Predators such as foxes, cats, rats, and possums, particularly those animals able to climb the trees where long-tailed bats roost, consider them to be edible. Since their bodies have little meat (they only weigh about 10 grams (half an ounce)) and can escape by flying up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour when threatened, larger animals or humans do not bother preying on them.
