My dog (a hunting dog) would come back sick when taken out to run and practice. Playing investigator, her Allergies were alot of the same as I have. I can tell by her nose---she snot drips--if it is a bad day. Sneezing too. Uses the Benadryl like humans do. Any meds must be run by your vet OR your pharmacist, who both can figure out the dosage for you.
One of the rules of our dog coming to live with us was keeping clean due to my distress, she loves her rinse with water shower times as well as her shower bathing times AND loves the vacuum cleaner on a daily basis. When she comes scratching on the vacuum, you whip out the wand and 'suck her down'. Sits there and practically rolls her eyes.
So the allergic to self is not the issue, as dog being allergic to its environment. Thing SMOKING, etc. All dangerous to pets as well as humans.
