No, not always. In fact, most species are born looking quite different from the mother. For example, some species are born blind and totally without any hair, but as they grow, they develop sight and acquire fur. Baby squirrels look nothing like the mother squirrel, for example, and the same is true for baby rabbits. Baby animals of most species seem able to identify the mother and they know how (and where) to nurse. But if you have ever seen a litter of puppies, they do not all look like mom (or dad).
