It's actually illegal to do this in many areas without specific permits. You should contact your local wildlife service office to find out whether or not it's allowed. If it is, they can give you detailed instructions for the species native to your area. They'll also probably supervise you to make sure you're not raising it as a pet... the goal is to release it back into the wild, and a deer that has come to associate humans with comfort and food will almost certainly get shot next hunting season.
