India has over 441 animal sanctuaries and 80 national parks which are home to several endangered species of animals (Bengal Tigers, Asiatic Elephants, Snow Leopards, Indian Rhinoceros) and many different species of birds (Great Indian Bustard, Himalayan Monal Pheasant, , White Breasted Swiflet, Griffon Vultures) just to name a few.
Killing of rhinoceros is prohibited and there is strict punishment for the crime. Reserve parks and sanctuaries are also made to preserve them. Government is looking after the parks and sanctuaries.
The purpose of making national parks biosphere reserves and wildlife sanctuaries is to protect the flora and fauna and to prevent it from extinction.
