The main reason Lonestar stopped this was because of safety issues. The peanuts on the floor presented a slip and fall risk for both employees and guests and Lonestar would have been liable for damages. A second reason for this decision was because it caused the restaurant to be in a constant state of appearring unclean. In an attempt to allow guest to continue receiving peanuts, Lonestar began giving one bucket with the peanuts and a second for the discarded shells. However, because guests continued to disregard the newly established policy and to lower food cost, Lonestar began giving out a single bag of peanuts per guest with a larger basket and then ultimately did away with peanuts all together. These answers are no guess, I am an ex-employee of a Lonestar Restaurant which recently closed down permanently in Dayton, Ohio.
