Haitians were originally brought over on slave ships from West Africa, primarily Togo and Benin. Haiti is also one of the greatest examples of mixing in the Caribbean. Haitians of black African descent, and foreigners have born and raised families in Haiti for generations. The most significant minority groups are Middle Easterners (Lebanese and Syrian), those of Hispanic heritage, as well as mulattos.
Oh honey, Haiti is a melting pot with a mix of African descent, mixed-race, and European ancestry. The majority of the population identifies as black, with a smaller percentage being of mixed race and a tiny sprinkle of white folks. But hey, at the end of the day, we're all just human beings sharing this crazy world together.
No, being black means that you have ancestral roots that come out of Africa. Today, a black skin color can be found in several different continents, and one might associate themselves more with Jamaican or Haitian ancestry, though technically all people with a dark skin tone had family that came out of Africa at some point in history. Unfortunately, almost all of the time it was due to being enslaved. But you couldn't call someone born in the United States an African. They are African-American. Calling someone "African" gives the connotation that they were born in Africa.
Are you serious. They're black because they originally came from Africa. The dominicans they share the island with weren't brought there by slavery, they're native to the island and known as Indians. I think haitians were brought to the island by slavery. Just so you know there's no such thing as races there's only one as we're all the same, we all originated as black people. Every "race" has it's own DNA that makes it white, Asian, etc but also has black DNA. That prooves we're all black. I'm white & Irish but really I'm black. We all look different due to where we settled after we left Africa. If every person on the planet went back to Africa after so many yrs or so many generations all babies born would be black. Mind blowing isn't it. If you don't know this the proof's out there, get to a library or go online. You're question should be how come we're not all black
Well, darling, the color brown on an African mask can symbolize earth, fertility, or even the ancestors. It's like the mask is saying, "Hey, I'm grounded and connected to my roots." So, next time you see a brown African mask, just remember it's not just a pretty face - it's got some deep meaning behind it.
the native Americans were not familiar to the sicknesses that the British and Spanish brought over so when they were enslaved for a short time they were dieing faster than they could get new ones compared to the African Americans which was exposed to these sicknesses before and was better addapted to the diseases. Just a little more information the blacks or African Americans were more expensive so the use of endenshured slaves was more popular.
no they are just like jamaicans white black asian mixed
You can tell if you perform an ancestry DNA test. Sometimes its not enough to go by appearance alone. But African American is just one category of 'African'. You can be of African ancestry and not be American. In the USA, it's no longer important to be of African ancestry since the Jim Crow era is in the past and no longer applies today.
Dominicans and Haitians are the same AFRICANS before the spanish arrived it was all the same then the spanish came with more African slave's and Taino indians ONLY the white dominicans are white because it is just the Spanish who inhabited the island I know because I'm Dominican and i can't hide my African roots
Haitians wear clothes, just like any other human on the planet wears.
Wow who was the idiot. The Dominican race always existed. They were Tainos. Before Cristobal Colon or as he's known in the USA Christopher Columbus. Settle in the Island making it the Isla De Hispaniola. He settle on the Island before reaching the USA. He brought with him boats filled with African slaves. A lot of the Tainos were assassinated by the Spaniards. Those who survived were mad slaves too. It took 200 before the french step foot on the island. By this time Dominicans were already mixed. Spaniard,Taino and African mixed. Till this Day the majority are African, Taino and Spaniard descent. Mostly African and Taino.. Haitians did not come into contact with Dominicans until the Spanish notice they were on the west part of the Island 200 years later. The Haitians who are really Africans were being sold by the french as slaves. Spain and The french went to war 3 times, the last time the French Controlled Haitians took control of The Dominican Republic for 22 years. I'm Dominican. My great Grand mother was straight from Spain. She settle in The Dominican Republic around 1910. She then married an Afriano( African & Taino mix) They Had my grandmother who married my grandfather who was Haitian(African) Dominican mix.more then 90% of the country got African Ancestry in their blood. A lot of them are just to ignorant to admit it. Please do research before posting up stupidity. no people "ALWAYS" existed, hateful pompous answers make a person sound petty and small minded. its best to avoid such behavior... and spelling admit correctly helps to.
i dont know but can you just answer my question
Haitians practice Catholicism and protestantism. In fact, in Haiti one is free to practice any religion one feels appealing. Some Haitians practice voodoo, but not openly. I would like to demystify the thoughts that all Haitians practice voodoo. That is not true at all. Just because some people believe in superstition does not mean they practice voodoo.
Because white men just took people from the african kingdoms and enslaved them cause they think they're better than the rest of the world. not just from west african but ALL da world.
Barack Obama is African - American His mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was born in Wichita, Kansas (U.S), and was of mostly English ancestry. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was a Luo from Nyang'oma Kogelo, Kenya.
No. Keith Jarrett says himself that he is of Scottish and Hungarian ancestry, with no African ancestry that he knows of, despite the olive complexion, large nose and dark curly hair. He tells a story where Ornette Coleman is saying to him, "You HAVE to be black, man! You just HAVE to!" and Keith replies, "I'm working on it..."
