Lewis and Clark were given $2,500 each by the U.S. government to fund the Corps of Discovery expedition. This amount covered expenses such as supplies, equipment, and hiring additional personnel for the journey.
Expeditions offer explorers the opportunity to discover new places, cultures, and natural wonders. They can also challenge individuals physically and mentally, fostering personal growth and resilience. Expeditions often lead to the expansion of knowledge and understanding of the world.
Giovanni Da Verrazzano secured funding for his expeditions from various sources, including wealthy merchants, investors, and government sponsors. He likely proposed his voyages as opportunities for trade, discovery, and colonization to attract financial support for his explorations.
Sir Walter Raleigh's expeditions were primarily funded by England. Queen Elizabeth I granted him the right to colonize in North America, which led to the establishment of the Roanoke Island colony in modern-day North Carolina. Raleigh also invested some of his own money in these expeditions.
I don't now if they wanted to "explore". Thomas Jefferson, the president at that time (the third pres.) picked them because he had just brought the Louisiana Territory from the Spanish, who were offering $15 million. (They needed the money because they had spent lots of their money on the war.. ((offered by Napoleon btw))..). So, President Jefferson appointed them to go explore the land he had just bought. They took others who had good wildlife skills, and Clark brought along his African-American slave, York, who helped a lot. On the way, they met Sacagawea and other Indians (Oto, Missouri, etc..). They went to explore to look for the Northwest passage and to see what was beyond the Mississippi River. (They found lots of animals, ones they never saw in the East, prairie dogs, etc.) They also met Indians. If Sacagawea wasn't there with her son, they would have probably gotten killed. When a woman & child was there with the Americans, the Indians found that they werent a threat or a war party. due to this, the Indians guided them on their way.Hope I helped!!!!For more info about the Clark & Lewis expedition, email me. ask wuestions, whatever: kiesha2009@hotmail.com
