I Would say the choke on your one barrel carburetor is sticking
Start the engine. Let the engine reach operating temperature.Remove your Air cleaner to your Carburetor while the engine is running.Look down the throat of the carburetor and you will see a round flap A.K.A the butterfly.This flap should be completely open when the engine is at operating temperature open so that the air can pass through the throat of the carburetor freely. If you don't understand how a choke works go to howstuffworks and ask how a carburetor choke works and it will all make since.

The idle speed is factory pre-set, and no adjustment is available. If the idle is too high, or too low, you will be having other problems that will affect the idle. In cooler temperatures, it will take the engine longer to come out of fast idle, as the engine warms up to operating temp. If the idle is too high/stays at a higher than normal idle, then take the thing to get it repaired. Running a car in gear(automatic transmission) with a higher than normal idle, can damage the transmission.

It has an idle solonoid that controls the idle speed and sometimes you need to take it out of the throtle body and clean it, If it just idles smoothly as if you didn't turn the key off, it is probably the ignition switch which is on the steering column under the dash. Not where you insert the key. that is simply the lock mechanism.

Your Idle air control (IAC valve) is probably sticking. Try cleaning it. If it idles too low, replace it for about $43.00
