if this is a 4.3 the fuel pump needs to be checked there needs to be at least 55 psi coming from the pump there is a valve on driver side of motor at the back of the throttle body looks like the top of a valve stem , you can get a pressure tester at auto parts store, if the pump is bad, replace pump and sending unit if you don't the pump will go bad again.

try squirting some sarter fluid in air filter .if this starts engine and then dies, try it again. if engine will run as long as you squirt starter fluid ,the stop when starter fluid runs out, pretty much means you are not getting fuel. so you then need to check fuel filter, fuel pump injectors and injector pump until you find the problem
