ALL RUBBER COMPONENTS (HOSES/BELTS) SHOULD BE REPLACE RIGHT ABOUT EVERY TWO(2) years.now your rack and pinion should only be replace if is going bad or if is already bad. For example once the inner bushings on your tie rods brakes or crack, the entire unit needs to be replaced. if the rack is leaking it needs to be replace Even if there is NO noticeable changes in your steering of the vehicle. This is done for SAFETY REASONS.

no id doesn't require a special trick just remove the 3 bolts that hold the power steering pump and it will give u acess to the water pump placing it on is the hard part

Please clarify. Clay is absolutely right. The alternator has no outside oil connection. Find out what REALLY is leaking. A/C compressor? Power Steering?
