I have a 2004 mazda6 with a V6 , 5 speed manual transmission and I am having major problems. We recently had a new fan replaced by the dealer that continues to run after the car shuts off. This was a fix by Mazda to keep the car from overheating and catching fire (explanation by the dealer). Ever since then the check engine light will come on, eventually resets itself, but will invariably come on again. It always comes on if I get the RPMs up around 3000. The dealer blames the gas cap. Recently the car has started to race in each gear when I shift before it would catch hold and start to run normal. It would get as high as 5000 RPMs before the transmission would finally shift into gear, instead of the normal 2000. Finally last night I was on my way to work when it would no longer go at all. I had the gas pedal to the floor, the RPMs were almost redline, and the car was straining to go even 20 MPH. Of course we had the car already scheduled for the dealer the next day and to top it off, my wife paid the car off early 6 months ago. The car got towed to the dealer and we are told it is the clutch and the flywheel. Estimated cost to replace both, $1000.00. We recently had to replace the clutch on my son's Nissan Altima this past year, but it was a 1993. If anyone else is having this problem I would be happy to hear from you.
If you have the 2004 model of the RX8 this could be due to the starter motor, Mazda themselves have noticed this problem and have created an upgraded starter motor on the RX8 but this dose come at a cost, Hope this helps
No way we can tell from here. If the engine cranks, it is not the battery. The battery can be good and the engine not crank due to other problems. Sorry, but we really cannot diagnose by remote control.
A person can get a 2004 PT Cruiser engine diagram from a Chrysler dealership. An auto parts store also may have a copy of the diagram for customers.

Talk to your Mazda dealer but, it sounds like a problem with your automatic transmission and just like a check engine light it may be a number of problems.
