AnswerThis is a frequently asked question that is difficult to answer because the range is so wide. It varies from region to region, state to state, county to county. The best thing you can do is to set aside some time and book appointments with 3 recommended painters in your area ( you can do this all in one day). Make sure they DO come recommended and you can see their work (mostly applies to exteriors). Questions you might want to ask are: Is their estimate inclusive of materials, what does their estimate exactly include (get this in writing) what kind of materials will they use, how long will it take to do the job, how many people will be on the crew (make sure you meet them all...you do not want a stranger posing as a painter or any other contractor on site, especially on an interior job), will the owner of company be there at all times and if not who will be in charge, VERY IMPORTANT>are they bonded and/or insured (ask to see proof of insurance). I've included all of these factors because a good painter is worth the extra couple of bucks. You have to factor in his insurance costs, gas, # of people on his crew (bigger crews get job done faster but they must be managable and individually responsable), time and materials (don't forget they have to prep, prime, and paint 2 coats). A simple one color job will cost less than a multi-colored, detailed job. Also remember that if it is an interior project, he will use flat paint for the ceiling, an eggshell finish for the walls (although there are flat washables now), and there are latexes made just for woodwork (I still prefer oil). Hope this is enough to get you started. Good luck with your project! Answer

Where are you located? If you're in or around Chicago, and you're looking to hire a painter...look into DreamWorks Painting and Design....www.dreamworkspainting.com...They do a great job, are super easy to work with, and usually have great deals going on....and their prices include paint and materials already, which is really cool. Hope this helps!

Average = £120 per day. (£15 per hour for an eight hour day.) Starting out? Charge about half of this, as you will be twice as slow as a time served tradesman. Start to raise your prices gradually after at least six months. Depending on level of expertise, customer, geographical area and type of work involved, some Painter/Decorators can earn up to £200 per day.

The complexity of the job and the market you are in will greatly impact wages. That being said, I generally pay my painter $12 per hour to paint my properties.

It is not complicated work, and I provide all tools, materials and paint. All he has to do is prepare it, paint it, then clean up.

It can take a few days to paint a 1,000 Square foot unit properly. The upside is that it is cheaper than hiring a professional painting business, the downside is that it will take slightly longer overall.
