There are 7 bolts going into the water pump, 4 long and 3 short. The short bolts will go into the 12:00, 5:00, and 7:00 O'clock positions. Look for those 3 (short bolt) positions to have the timing chain cover threaded. The timing chain cover for the 4 long bolts will be smooth. Glad I could help.

To replace the water pump on a 2003 Grand AM, the first step is to loosen the bolts on the old one and drain the fluid into a bucket. After it is drained, remove the bolts and the water pump and all of the hoses connected to it. Then, put in the new pump, reattach all of the hoses, tighten the bolts, and then refill the coolant reservoir.
If it is a stright six cyl. start by taking off the shroud around fan blade, bolts on top of radaitor. pop in plugs on bottem. Shroud will slip by blade with radiator loose. Loosen bolts from tensioner and slip fan belt off Use a ratchet to take four bolts off of fan remove it set aside. Loosen all bolts from power sterring pump only one will have to be removed. From there you can slip out and replace water pump without much trouble.
It should come off easy, as long as all the bolts are off. Just give it a couple of wacks with a hammer.
95 Grand AM V6 water pump is fairly easy. You have to take the serpentine belt off. The water pump pully has 4 bolts in it take them out the pully slides off and there are 4 more bolts that hold the water pump in take those out and the water pump slides out.

How do I replace water pump on 2004 jeep grand Cherokee
I have a 1998 Chrysler Voyager and to change the water pump I found that after loosening the bolts there was simply not enough space between the engine and the engine side wall to get it out. The solution is simply to put a jack under the engine to support it, then remove the engine mounting bolts and use the jack to lift the engine enough to get the water pump out from the top of the engine. Then put the new one in, tighten the bolts and put on the belt again. Then lower the engine and put on the engine mounting bolts.
