There is only one original if it is a drawing. However, an etching created from a drawing and then printed creates what is referred to as an edition of prints. Each print is an original of sorts, printed from the same etched plate, and numbered as to it's position in the run.

What are the differences between an original portrait and a print?

Originals and PrintsFirst poster was right, second poster was sort of right. Prints are reproductions, PRINTMAKING is a technique by which one can make art, (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpting are all examples). If you're talking about purchasing one or the other, they are definitely two distinct things. You can purchase a print of an artwork made by printmaking; it just means it is not the original artwork, it is a reproduction, usually downscaled and printed on paper. The below answer isn't entirely true. Printmaking techniques are original artworks, these include etchings, collagraphs, lithographs, lino cuts, wood cuts etc. So maybe there's no difference.A print is a reproduction. It is not the original. It's a copy.To add to this answer, an original (for instance a painting) is the original piece that was created by the artist. A print (or lithograph) is a result of having the original photographed, or more likely now digitally scanned, and reproduced in mass quantity on a printing press resulting in multiple quality reproductions.

How much is a small William Hogarth print worth?

This very much depends on the exact print, when it was printed, who printed it, what the subject of the print is, and what condition it is in. When Hogarth was alive, not only were there many authorized versions of his prints, there were many pirated versions, as well. After he died, various other people published versions of his prints. Sometimes, they used the original plates Hogarth used, and sometimes they had other plates engraved. In some cases, there were engravings that were copies of Hogarth's works, done in a smaller size, which were used as illustrations in books. Some of these books may have been printed as recently as the early 20th Century. So a "Hogarth print" might have been printed anywhere from 1700's to the 1900's, and may be someone else's copy of Hogarth's original print. (And I'm sure that there have been plenty of later copies and forgeries as well.) As you can guess, a 1700's original Hogarth print is likely going to be worth a lot more than an 1800's or 1900's copy of that same print that was a book illustration. Also, some prints are more interesting to collectors than others, and so may be worth more. And the condition of the print is important. A perfect print will be worth more than one with water stains, spots, or other damage. To figure out what a Hogarth print is worth, you need specific information about the things just mentioned. Hope this helps.

What qualifies a printed copy of a picture as a 'print'?

Art prints are painstakingly made, with each color manually added via individual plates or screens. A lower-quality printed copy of an original painting is more accurately described as a reproduction.

A painting is a piece of artwork that is either an original done by the artist, or a simulation that is made to look like an original. in contrast, a print looks more like a two dimensional picture of something.

Roughly around $200.00 depending on the condition and if its not a re-print. If its an original print from 1993 then it could cost more. I would check to see if its a re-print. GoodLuck!

Is there more than 1 of the same etching print where BOTH are considered original?

Yes there can be. A good example are Rembrandt prints. It is customary to do an edition (more than 1) of prints from an etching. There are also artist proofs. The signature and notation is key. A notation of 7/100 means that print is the 7th one in an edition of 100. Rembrandt signed his original prints in a variety of ways which also affect the value, and each print is technically an original. Also, since many of his plates survived other artists/printers created later editions, some are also valuable.

How much is the original grays anatomy book?

You'd need to take it to a rare book dealer for an appraisal. Please note that the "original" was published in 1858, and it's more or less been in print continuously since; you probably don't actually have an "original" one.
