Not really, you need to drop the oil pan to get to the rear main. You may be able to install a new seal by dropping the cap for the rear main. You may have to loosen all the main caps and pull the crank down just a bit. Install the seal and re-torque the main caps.
The main hazard is that you may fall. Other hazards are of dropping something, with the added hazard that what you drop may injure someone.

did you check the kick down cable connected to your transmition to your carb or fuel injection unit? the main purpose of the kick down cable is it tells the transmition to shift when you accelerate the car.i had the same problem to my Ford Taurus. don't try to do it yourself! take it to the shop! If Engine oil is present, It would most likely be the rear-main oil-seal leaking! could also be coming from the valve cover(s)
