Yes you can. Its actually recommended if you think that's the cause for the ht scarring. If the jewelry is too tight or if its a ring and it keeps getting hit, it could cause the ht scarring. I suggest tht you go to your piercing and them change it out to whatever works best for you.
More then likely they'd have you take out the nostril piercing before they pierce the septum. You should have no problem with the nose ring and septum ring getting caught on each other afterwards though.
Piercing laws change and vary from state to state, to get the most current regulations contact your local health unit. They will be able to tell you about age restrictions and requirements for id as well as provide you a list of facilities that have been inspected and are in good standing for your area.
The type of retainer that you got should work just fine. What it sounds like to me is that you got two different pieces of jewelry of two different sizes, the clear retainer being probably just a gauge smaller than the nose screw that you would normally wear in it. The best thing for you to do in this instance is to go to shop that you got the piercing done at, let the piercer determine the gauge, and they will then get you an appropriate screw of that same size. Once your nostril has chilled out and healed, you should be able to get the original piece back in there.
Prices vary, it depends on where you get it done. Call some and ask for price estimates. You should probably pay about $20-70. If anyone tries to charge you more than that, call somewhere else.
The histories surrounding body piercing and tattooing vary greatly, some cultures did these things for religious reasons and others for the image it would reflect to other tribes. A piece of stead-like ornament worn by women in their nose, commonly known as nose-ring and nose stead. (known as Mukkuthi or Mookuthi in Tamil and Nath in Hindi) The custom to wear this ornamental jewel is typically different from one state to other, one caste to other and even different amongst communities. One custom observed by some sects is that it be used as a tool to help young women in their rite of passage into adulthood. By having a nose piercing it reminds young woman that they are no longer children and must be responsible for their individual actions as an adult. This practice usually begins at the time that young girls begin their menstrual cycle. It also identifies them to other members of their community of their status, that they must be treated with the respect of an adult and therefore must act accordingly. It has been significantly helpful in developing the maturity of young woman as they struggle between childhood and adulthood.
