More then likely they'd have you take out the nostril piercing before they pierce the septum. You should have no problem with the nose ring and septum ring getting caught on each other afterwards though.

Yes you can. Its actually recommended if you think that's the cause for the ht scarring. If the jewelry is too tight or if its a ring and it keeps getting hit, it could cause the ht scarring. I suggest tht you go to your piercing and them change it out to whatever works best for you.

The type of retainer that you got should work just fine. What it sounds like to me is that you got two different pieces of jewelry of two different sizes, the clear retainer being probably just a gauge smaller than the nose screw that you would normally wear in it. The best thing for you to do in this instance is to go to shop that you got the piercing done at, let the piercer determine the gauge, and they will then get you an appropriate screw of that same size. Once your nostril has chilled out and healed, you should be able to get the original piece back in there.

The best way to see what a piercing will look like without getting it done (or to get a photo of you or someone so it looks like a piercing) is to buy a couple of threaded balls and/or a ball closure ring (aka captive bead ring) - go to a piercing studio and ask them, the jewellery shouldn't be too expensive. Then use some fake eyelash glue to glue the balls to your face (hmmm… that didn't sound quite right!) in the place you'd want the piercing(s) or take the ball/bead out of the ring and hook the ring onto your nose/lip/wherever then take a photo.
