The simple answer is yes, many artists create 'mixed media' pieces of art. Charcoal and paint are a good combination. The important thing is to understand the materials one is using, the interaction of the combined media, and choosing a ground (canvas, paper, etc.) that will hold the media. Experimenting on a small scale can develop the interaction to achieve the desired end result. Many 'happy accidents' happen with this process, so enjoy the journey.
