In 1881 Edison was awarded the French Legion of Honor, and in 1889 Italy made him a Grand Officer of the Crown. He received awards from many other countries including Chile, Britain, Japan, and Russia. Henry Ford built a museum of industry, consisting mainly of Edison's inventions, in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1929 the museum held a celebration, called Light's Golden Jubilee, to mark the 50th anniversary of the invention of the electric light.

In 1887, Edison won the matteucci medal.
