Yes. Its a tough job. You have to remove the dash panel, including the steering wheel and steering column and then remove the plenum box which involve evacuating the refrigerant system and draining the radiator. Once you get the heater box out, replacing the heater core will take about 10min and then you have to put it all back together and recharge the AC and fill the radiator.
If you are seeing leak problems with the system, you will have to go through this process. If the problem is lack of heat and/or AC control, the problem is more likely the blend door. This is a common fail on the Cherokee. You can get diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix on the HeaterTreater web site. Follow my user name to my Bio Page for a pointer or just search heatertreater on any search engine. ford4me

The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library. This is quite an involved job usually it requires removing the dash. you should contact a qualified service person.

You do not need to completely remove the dashboard in order to change the heater core. Remove the water hoses from the heater core. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new heater core.
First remove the right front speaker and cover then remove the top bolts in the heater box and the remove the heater hoses out front in the spare tire compartment. Then remove the two straps holding the heater core in place. Reverse order for installation.
the aftermarket alarm kit
The evap is in the heater box which is bolted to the firewall behind the instrument panel (IP)assembly. The IP has to be removed in order to gain access to the heater box. After you remove the IP or detach it enough to gain access, the heater box bolts from the outside. The A/C will need to be evacuated and the heater hoses disconnected from the heater core. It is a job I would recommend for an experienced mechanic.
I need a year and engine size in order to provide an answer.
