Yes. In some people. I'm not sure why. But I am one of those people. I was seeing a doctor and about to get a terrible diagnosis when I decided to quit drinking and eating anything that contained Aspartame. Within days my symptoms were better, within weeks, the symptoms were gone. At first, like most, drinking these diet drinks (Coke Zero, Sprite Zero) and eating sugar-free and "light" foods seemed great and I lost weight like my doctor wanted (just shedding a few pounds because I have high BP), but more and more I started noticing symptoms that were scary like sudden memory loss (short term memory really bad), joint pain, anxiety attacks, and many other symptoms that others have also complained of. Now I will NEVER knowingly use any artificial sweetener or knowingly consume any product containing artificial sweetener. By the way, I was ONLY drinking 1/2 to 1 can of soda a day and eating very few foods containing artificial sweetener, so contrary to popular belief moderation is NOT the key.
Not everyone reacts to Aspartame in the same way. If one has an allergy to certain components of the Aspartame, it may cause problems, but to date there are NO RELIABLE results of testing to definitively blame any damage from Aspartame.

Alzheimer's disease is a brain condition that causes problems in thinking and memory. It is a progressive disease that affects cognitive function, memory, and behavior, leading to difficulty performing daily tasks.
Headaches and memory loss are the most common side effects of aspartame. Aspartame should be avoided. It is in most diet soft drinks and sugar free candies.
I have experienced confusion/memory problems after taking Tylenol Extra Strength.
