Generally speaking you should not suffer any pain or side effects from having a CT scan. However in some cases you may feel a slight dull ache, if the symptoms persist after 7 days consult your GP.

Can an x-ray help determine the cause of lower back pain?

Yes, an X-ray can be used to see if you have any obvious causes for your pain such as broken bones or curvature of the spine. It cannot, however, detect if you have pinch nerves or slipped disks, which are other very common causes of Lower Back Pain. An MRI or CAT scan would be needed to detect those changes.

Hi Judy-that sounds ?

Hi Judy-that sounds painful!! Based on your history, medications and implant, it sounds like you have had a complicated history with your back. I would suggest you contact your back doctor and notify him or her of these symptoms. If you have any symptoms of bowel or bladder incontinence, leg weakness/numbness or difficulty walking, you should go to the emergency room to be evaluated. Sometimes, kidney-related or pancreas pain can be felt in the back as well; if your symptoms do not improve or are not related to your back, you may need to be seen by an internist who can run some tests and possibly a CT scan to ensure nothing else is going on. In general, many people with chronic back pain benefit from regular massage and yoga.
