On quite a few of these type vehicles, the answer is yes- but-
You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00
It's been a while since I worked on a 1G Talon, but I believe the water Pump is located on the serpentine belt. It's the same belt with the crank shaft and alternator. No, you should not remove the timing belt.
On most engines, the water pump drive belt is also the timing belt.
if you haven't changed the timing belt recently, you might as well change the timing belt, water pump, and both idler pulley and timing belt tensioner. This way you can set the timing with the proper tools, that's probably what you'll have to do anyhow since the belt moved, hopefully it didn't damage any valves when you tried to start it and the belt was off timing.
1. Check out the water pump 2. check Timing cover gaskets
Approx. $1,000 USD from a Saturn dealer. You may want to also change the water pump at the same time.
yeah it would be a good idea
If you have timing chain it means that your water pump is connected to one of the belts. So the answer is no. But make sure that you have timing chain. Because if you have timing belt then the water pump is connected to the timing belt. And the latter one has to removed if you want to change the pump.
No, you do not have to replace the timing belt at the same time as the water pump. It is highly recommended because there is no additional labor involved since the timing belt must be removed to replace the water pump.
The water pump is located in the shroud that houses the timing belt. This is why the pump is changed when you get a new timing chain.
Assuming you have the 2.5 engine, the water pump is driven off the timing belt.
It depends on the motor..if you have overhead cam...then YES. The timing belt has to be removed when the water pump is changed and the cam sprockets have to be set to correct timing when the belt is replaced.
the water pump is behind the timing belt, depending on how mechanically inclined you are it could take a few hrs-a few days.its a very big job
Its pretty bad a lot of stuff has to be removed before you can get to it, I suggest you change the timing belt while you have everything removed
use the remove timing belt instructions and it includes the water pump,"if your in there do them all !"
no you do not have to change the timing chain when changing the water pump.
you will have to take off the water pump and lossen the oil pan to get to the crank and timing gears. and some other parts to have clearance for the timing chain cover to be removed
plastic explosives, just kidding.its behind the timing belt, serious pain in the ass
