By the hissing noise it sounds like you need a new brake booster
I think that one is a 3/8 Allen.
If I were asking here it would mean I have never changed brakes before. Although the process is fairly simple you can do things wrong that would prevent the brakes from working properly. Your first time needs to be with the oversight of someone who has changed brakes before. Better yet, have a qualified mechanic do it for you. Your life and the lives of others may hang in the balance.
Answeron modern cars there is a wear indicator on brakesit will usuall scrape and make a noise when brakes are low enuff to require replacingyou can also see this if you remove wheel and look at brakes50% worn brakes have lots of miles left on them, barring other problems or damage. When they get below 25% is the time to think about new.
Change the oil, change the oil and fuel filters, grease it, ensure the air filter is serviceable, make sure the brakes are in spec and the wheel seals are intact, ensure the lights work, ensure the tires are legal and inflated.
It could possibly be a bad vacuum line connection. some cars use a vacuum powered motor to divert the air to different vents when you select them on the climate controls. With the car running, open the hood and listen for any hissing noises, like leaking air.If you dont find any leaks there, and you don't hear a hissing inside the car, you may possibly have bad ductwork in your car. if you find a vacuum leak, either replace the hose, or sometimes it iis as simple as pushing the hose back onto a fitting.
Take it to a professional
Hello you need to change your master cylinder.
I would suggest you get a service manual such as the factory service manual, a Chilton or other manual. Therein you will find instructions as well as diagrams that will help you change your brakes. If you don't have a manual they are often available at your local library.
you change the brakes, check brakes fluid, bleed the brakes why is hard to stop in a 1988 sliverado?
I assume that you mean "brakes", the things that stop the car. Although it isn't hard to change brakes, you can mess it up with potentially disastrous results. Since you ask i this forum, I recommend that either you have a professional do the job or buy the beer for someone experienced in brakes to look over your shoulder while you do the job. --Ken
