How do you make your crochet straighten out instead of being so curly?

Narrow bands of crochet always have a tendency to curl up, it's the nature of the stitches and the yarn used. In order for it to straighten out you will have to make the object wider, or add more rows of crochet on to your original chain. It should start to curl up less and less the more rows you make.

How do you crochet the second row?

The technique for crocheting a second row in a piece differs for each stitch. For example, for single crochets, you go up one chain, turn and go into the first loop on your piece (the top that looks like a braid or a v). For double crochet, you generally chain up 3 and go into the second stitch of the row. The number of chains needed may vary depending on the personal tension of the crocheter and how tall your stitches are. However, it is important to note that in single crochet, the chain up does NOT count as a stitch and in double and triple crochet it does. This makes a difference in which stitch is worked as your final stitch of the succeeding rows. If you miss the last stitch, or you go into the wrong first stitch, you will lose or add stitches on each row causing your work to go in directions you did not plan. You might like to check tutorials on Youtube which demonstrate the technique.

How do you crochet wrist warmers?

First, you need to make a chain of 24 stitches. (or however many looks like a good fit by putting the chain around your wrist) I always chain loosely, making it easier to work back in the stitches later. Chain 1 and turn. Next, working in the back bumps of the chain, single crochet in all the stitches across. (A teacher showed me that working in the bumps on the back of the chain, gives you a finished edge on the end of the piece.) Chain 1 and turn. Then, double crochet in all of the stitches across. (I like using double crochet for this piece. It's a longer stitch, so it gives a little wiggle room in the warmers, but not too much where all the cold air would come in.) Chain 1 and turn. Make 11 rows of double crochets, chaining 1 and turning at the end of each row. (Add more rows if you want it to go further down your wrist. I suggest making the one for your other hand now, just to make sure they are the same. Then finish them at the same time. After the 11th row of double crochets, chain1 and turn. Single crochet in all the stitches across, again creating the finished edge. Chain 1, then cut the piece free, making sure to leave a tail to sew in later. You should now have a rectangle piece, that can be wrapped around your hand.

How do you make a shell on crochet?

To crochet a shell stitch you will be making a series of double or treble stitches, which will be joined at the top, but not the bottom. A common number of stitches used to make the shell would be five, however if only two stitches are joined, that would be referred to as a decrease, and doesn't really qualify as a shell stitch.I have attached some links to video tutorials to show you how to make shell stitches.

Can you add to the width of an almost completed crochet blanket?

Yes, you can. The method used will depend on what pattern you are working and how much you need to add. If it is vertical stripes, it is quite easy to just add another stripe. If it is granny squares, just add more squares where you need the extra width. If it is horizontal stripes, just turn the whole thing round and made it vertical stripes, then add more stripes. If your blanket is being worked horizontally in one piece, then you might create a second strip in the same pattern, then join the two strips. You can do this either when you have completed the first strip, or at the point you are now. If you do the latter, you would then continue the pattern, going into both sections. I have done this with a ripple afghan, but I was not far into it at the time. The assembly of the two strips must be done carefully if you don't want it to show.

What does 'Chain 4 then make single turning chain' in a crochet pattern mean?

In crochet, because stitches have "height" (where in knitting stitch height isn't much of an issue), crocheters add chain stitches to the end of a row to add height, in order to begin the next row.So, in your instructions, chain 4, then make a single turning chain, would mean to add another chain, turn your work so that you could then begin crocheting the second row. You would then insert your hook into the second chain from the hook and crochet the next stitch (which is going to be a single crochet--sc--due to only using one turning chain)There is a standard turning chain number, depending on the stitch you are going to use in the next row. [the link shows how many turning chains for each crochet stitch].For a:slip stitch = 0 turning chainsingle crochet = 1 turning chainhalf double crochet = 2 turning chainsdouble crochet = 3 turning chainstriple crochet = 4 turning chainsand so on.You see that as the stitch height grows, so do the number of chain stitches in your turning chain.

What tools do you need to make blankets?

Well, depends. If it's a yarn blanket you would need a crochet hook or you could use knitting needles. But if it's a fabric blanket you would need a sewing machine. There are different types of blankets. A crocheted or knitted blanket would need different supplies than a fleece, flannel, or cotton blanket. Crocheted or knitted: crochet hooks or knitting needles, scissors, yarn, needle for weaving in ends, ruler or measuring tape, pattern Fleece or flannel, you would need a straight edge for cutting the material to size, a rubber board or some other thing to protect your table from cuts, scissors or other cutting tool, measuring tape. If you are going to sew the edge under, you need thread and needle, and/or sewing machine. If you are going to crochet an edging around it, you need to add a small size crochet hook (probably a steel hook) and #10 bedspread weight thread plus a pattern for the edging. Quilts would need batting, material for both top and bottom, quilting thread, scissors, needle for sewing or sewing machine

How do you add a new skein of yarn to the one you are knitting with?

* There is no 'cast on' in crocheting. 'Cast on' is a knitting term. Crochet is generally started with a simple loop repeated to form a chain. * You don't cast on exactly because you have only one stitch at a time on the hook. In knitting it is called casting on because you are putting a whole row of stitches on a needle. Instead in crochet we make a "foundation chain." Determine the number of stitches you want in a row and make a chain of that many stitches. If you plan to do single crochet, add one additional chain to count as the first single crochet of the second row after you turn. For a row of half double crochet, make it two extra chains and for a double crochet, make it three extra chains.

Once finished crocheting an afghan can you add more to the beginning end of it?

Yes. This is easier with crochet than with knitting, where this process is more complicated.

What is a crochet in music?

Depends... A crochet is what you would add to a note to shorten its duration, as in that little thing you would add to make a quarter note an eight note, or an eighth a sixteenth. etc... Or in french "une croche" is the name for a 8th, so I'm not sure which you're refering to. Hope this helps ! P.S. : Crochet in french (in a non-musical context) translates either to a hook, a check mark or a type of knitting (as in, a sweater made all of wool, by hand with a special knitting technique called "au crochet"). It can also refer to a square bracket. Isin't french wonderful? :)

How do you join yarn skein for crochet?

The way I learned to join another yarn to my crochet project is to add the new yarn to the stitch you are doing, when there are two (2) loops of the stitch left on your hook. For example, I'm going to add new yarn to a double crochet project. So I would do my dc (double crochet) stitch by beginning with:yarn overinsert the hook into the next stitchyarn over hook againpull hook through stitchyarn over hook againnotice that you now have the last two loops on your hook, this is where you bring in your new yarn, grab new yarn with your hookpull through the last two loops remaining on your hookyou have now completed the dc stitchcontinue your project as written.
