If you try the 'Masuda method' Named after one of the makers of the game, If you leave A Pokemon from this state, and a Pokemon from another state and let them breed, 1/64 eggs could be a shiny. That's a very big improvement. In my SoulSilver game, I have only 1 Shiny: The Gyrados at the lake of rage. Don't hesitate if you fainted it because you thought it wasn't special. If you beat the elite 4, It will be back. I don't want to be offensive, but the answer avove this is completely wrong.
