two years or 30,000 miles. whichever is first.

All most all cars today have recommended tuneups at 60,000 or 100,000 miles due to the type of spark plugs being used. Consult your owners manual.

You should have a tuneup about every six months as a safe bet. The tuneup replaces the spark plugs and wires, along with different fluids outside of the regular oil replacing every 3000-5000 miles or as needed. A tuneup should not be a wait till something breaks event. If a spark plug goes out for instance, it can go unnoticed until serious damage is done to the engine. I threw a spark plug and wire once on the interstate and it was a nasty ordeal. If you bought the car new and have not got a tuneup yet go get one. If you have owned it less than a year you should be fine but remember the above statements.

Under normal driving conditions a standard spark plug can last aprox 50K, a platinum tip spark plug can last 100K. Spark plug wires aprox 100K. Fuel and air filters aprox 25 to 35K. Transmission service aprox 50K.

96 Ford Explorer check engine light is on also idles rough?

Something is wrong with idle . . . needs to be checked The real answer is that you need to get to a mechanic asap . . . When the idle was loose, the car would die, but when a tune up was needed it ran rough without fully dying . . .
