Battling is the easiest way but there's couple things you can also do;
1. Leave your Pokemon to the day-care and let hem grow levels.
2. Buy some vitamins (but these cost a lot of money so it's pretty hard to buy them without battling and getting some more money) like Iron, Zinc, Carbos, HP UP..
3. Compete in Pokeathlon and get some points, with 2000 points you can buy Rare Candy, but you can do this only once a day so it's really not the fastest way.
4. Put your Pokemon into Pokewalker and cheat it (by shaking it up'n'down) to get some steps, same time your Pokemon will get exp. and grow.
