If the registry entry is persistent, you have a hidden process running. The only way to get rid of this is to physically remove the hard drive from the computer and install it as a slave drive in another one (with an antivirus program, of course!). First scan the drive with the antivirus program. Then open Windows Explorer, then go to Tools -> Folder Options. In the Folder Options box, click the View tab. Select "Show hidden Files and Folders", apply, and OK. Browse to the drive and open the Windows folder. Legitimate Windows .exe and .dll files are not hidden, nor are legitimate program files. You can safely delete any hidden .exe or .dll files. If your not sure, Google or Live Search the EXACT file name. Legitimate Windows file names are well documented. It will be time consuming, but you will be able to get rid of it with this method eventually.

It's difficult to give a good answer to this question. There are a lot of trojans with the name StartPage. They all have something in common ... they haijck your browser, making normal internet-browsing almost impossible. The file leimbag.dll is probably one of the trojan's files. A lot of the StartPage-trojans are recognized by Symantec. If you have a Symantec virusscanner, do a complete system-scan. If not, use the Symantec Online virusscanner to scan your system for virusses: security.symantec Good luck, Jahewi :-)
This is not easy to get rid of but there are a couple of things you can do - 1. find and download "HiJackThis" (it's easily found with a Google search, 2. go to the URL below and have an online scan of your system. It's also a good idea to use two or three different spyware/adware/trojan removers on a regular basis. I use : Spybot S&D, Adaware6 and Aranea Spywizard. Spybot can run in your systemtray as a background shield - make sure you check regularly for updates. I followd Davids's advice: it works. I had Startpage.8.BJ twice, the first time AVG found and cleaned it, the second time AVG failed to notice. Following David's advice I used HiJackThis and found and deleted a suspect key in the registry. The key goes like "BHO: (no name)..." and ends with a dll-file. The dll-file had the same time-stamp my PC got infected. It seems startpage.8.BJ uses various dll-names for infection. After deleting this key you should delete also all keys referring startpages in IE. After cleansing you can tell IE what your startpage should be. Good luck and take care not to delete too many keys.......

I had a Trojan similar to this and it was very hard to get rid of. First, download SpySweeper. It does cost 30 dollars, I think, but it was worth it. Run a scan with it firts before buying it so you can see if it detects anything. Good luck!
