Its difficult to do, be sure to disconnect the battery first................ 1. Drain fluid from primary. 2. Remove primary cover. 3. Unscrew Jack Shaft through bolt on starter from primary side. 4. Remove rear inner plastic fender cover just in front of rear tire and between bike frame. 5. Remove supporting bolts for oil bucket. 6. Remove oil bucket and disconnect oil lines at same time. 7. Unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter in place. 8. Disconnect the electrical plug and positive lead wire at starter. 9. Curse the Harley-Davidson manufacturers for not making it easier to remove starter over the last 50 years. Install in reverse.

If the clutch slips, back the adjusting screw to a closer position to the end of the handlegrip. If it is hard shifting again, probably the clutch is worn and needs replacing.
